Isla Bonita: Tropical Cruise Matchmaking

Isla Bonita is a digital platform that simplifies cruise vacation planning through personalized, intuitive experiences.

Problem/Context

Planning a cruise trip can quickly become overwhelming. Users are faced with countless options (destinations, itineraries, pricing, timeframes, oh my) spread across different platforms for each cruise line.

Expectations for digital experiences have also evolved with users expecting faster, personalized interactions for all aspects of life. Trip planning is no exception.

Isla Bonita aims to providing users with quick access to cruise options that are tailored to their needs without hours of research.

Design Approach

This project went through multiple iterations, initially starting as a Dominican focused travel concept centered around curated routes and branding exploration.

Shifting to a robust search engine allowed me to focus on:

  • Simplifying high-effort tasks such as navigating large sets of data and coordinating group preferences
  • Providing a unified shopping experience for all types of cruise travelers
  • Support personalized and group travel planning by implementing a quiz-driven recommendation system and robust filtering capabilities

Emphasizing these functionalities help create a more efficient planning experience that reduces manual searching while still giving users control and flexibility over their decisions.
